Profile of the Firm

Foreman & Hill is an established firm of Chartered Accountants situated in the centre of Windsor, with free parking facilities.

The firm specialises in accounting, audit and taxation services for owner managed companies, partnerships and sole traders. We also prepare self assessment tax returns for individuals.

Going into business for the first time can be traumatic! We can offer the necessary assistance to set up companies and to register companies or individuals with HM Revenue & Customs for taxation, payroll and VAT, and general advice to help you establish your business.

We are a smaller independent firm and pride ourselves in offering a prompt and friendly service to our clients at a reasonable cost. Although our time is usually charged on an hourly basis to clients, we are pleased to quote you fixed annual fees for basic work such as preparation of annual accounts, corporation tax returns, personal self assessment tax returns and preparation of monthly payroll.

We are Registered Auditors, so we are licensed to carry out statutory audit work on limited company accounts, pension schemes and charities. We are also authorised to carry out the regulatory work required by the Law Society for firms of solicitors.

We have an experienced staff and try to tailor our service to the individual requirements of clients. Large or small, we strive to offer a friendly, efficient and cost effective service. Finally, we do try to explain accounting and tax matters to you in simple straight-forward terms!

Our Profiles 

Geoffrey Ryder, FCA

Geoffrey Ryder qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1970 and joined the firm in 1985, as a partner. His previous career included senior positions in commerce, acting as financial accountant, and a five-year term as manager with the international firm of accountants, KPMG. His experience in commerce as well as practice places him in an advantageous position to offer sound practical advice to clients.

Geoffrey speaks fluent Portuguese and has a basic understanding of written French and Spanish.

Stephen Higgs

Stephen has been Tax Manager of the firm since 1986 and has been working in tax since leaving College, firstly with the Inland Revenue and then in private practice, so has a wealth of experience to call on. He oversees all income and corporation tax, capital gains and compliance issues. Although compliance, particularly self-assessment, is important, Stephen feels that tax planning plays a vital role – in particular setting up business in a tax efficient manner, inheritance tax and succession planning. He is also very experienced in dealing with Inland Revenue investigations, both business and personal, and with negotiating with the Inspector of Taxes on behalf of clients.

Stephen lives in Sunninghill, and is married with two children. Besides family, his main interest is sport including football, rugby and cricket and enjoys cycling and walking when managing to have spare time. He also enjoys cooking and everything to do with food.

Rita Layton, CA (NZ)

Rita is one of our Audit and Accounts Managers. A Chartered Accountant from New Zealand, she has been qualified since 1987 and been with the firm since 1998. She has extensive experience in public practice dealing with small to medium sized business accounts and audits, together with hands on experience dealing with the practicalities of running a business in the manufacturing sector. She also has extensive practical experience in VAT, payroll, and numerous accounting software packages including a special interest in those businesses that require an effective accounting system implemented or updated, whether it be computerised or manual. She firmly believes that the personal touch is an essential part of any client relationship.

Rita has been in the UK since 1992, lives locally and is married with two children.  Her interests include genealogy,  walking, playing squash, music, theatre, and cinema and she enjoys watching rugby (except the World Cup!), cricket and football. She has a basic understanding of Dutch, is fluent in Kiwi and has an excellent knowledge of Australian.

Zygmunt Biernat

Zygi is one of our Audit and Accounts Managers and joined Foreman & Hill in April 2001. He started working in public practice in 1977 and has a wide variety of experience in many market sectors of a diverse range of sole traders, partnerships and small to medium sized companies. He also has had experience in commerce as Chief Accountant for five years with an international travel company, which has given him an insight into the practicalities of running and controlling a business enterprise. He believes that whilst accounting and auditing are important, the personal advice role in maintaining a close relationship with clients can make a very positive contribution to their success. He can also assist with income tax, corporation tax and VAT.

Zygi lives locally and is married with two children. He is fluent in Polish and is treasurer of a local educational society. His interests include history, philately, visiting museums, cinema and football.
